Learn Drums with Drumsense
Learn to play drums with the highly respected and proven Drumsense method devised by Drumsense Founder Colin Woolway. Richard is a registered Drumsense Master Tutor, Drumsense Tutor Trainer and highly experienced drum tutor with 44 years playing and 30 years teaching experience. All ages and abilities are welcome with students ranging from complete beginner to advanced with students aged from 4 years old to 80+. Many of Richard's students are now making their own career from performing, teaching or playing drums for their own enjoyment.
All aspects and styles of drumming are covered including rock, pop, jazz, metal, double bass, latin, rudiments, Moeller Technique and more. Students can study just for fun, learn to play their favourite songs, or study for Grades in Drumsense, Rockschool and Trinity College Grades to Grade 8 or work towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award. Richard has pass rate of 100% at Distinction Level for all grades and exam boards . Richard can also help with preparation for auditions for Further and Higher Education in Music at institutions such as Universities, Colleges, Brit School, BIMM, WaterBear etc.
The Teaching Room
The Teaching Room is equipped with acoustic drum kits, one for the teacher and one for the student. There is a music system for playing along to songs with an extensive library of material or students can provide their own favourite songs. An electronic drum kit is used for Online Lessons
About Richard
Richard has been playing drums for over 44 years and teaching for over 30 years. Drumming has been his passion since his early teens and finds teaching and passing on 'the knowledge' extremely rewarding. As one of the first to start teaching the excellent Drumsense Programme he has found it most enjoyable and produces great results. Richard started drumming in his early teens, began playing professionally at the age of 17 and now has many years of experience with numerous different bands and artists both live and in the studio.
After studying with various teachers, including Drumsense Founder Colin Woolway, he started teaching the Drumsense Programme in 1998 and is Maidstone's longest standing and most experienced drum tutor.
In addition to teaching privately Richard has also taught in schools.
As well as teaching the Drumsense Programme, Richard is also a Drumsense Master Tutor and able to teach the Programme those who aspire to become a Drumsense Tutor themselves.
Richard has also had the pleasure of working closely with David Hazlewood and David Driver when organising the very successful Drums In The Weald events which has included performances by Darrin Mooney (Gary Moore, Primal Scream), Adrian Erlandsson (Nemhain), Pete Lockett (Independent), Steve White (Paul Weller, The Style Council) and the Drumsense Founder himself Colin Woolway.
